All To My Web Page.

My name is Joe Hartman better known to all my poet friends simply as 'Joebirdies'
It is with great joy that I can now see some of the poems that I have written and spent years sharing with other poets on various poetry web-sites here in my first book; a collection of poems most dear to me and that other friends and poets have enjoyed when reviewing. The title I chose
'Pieces of Existence'
is just that. It is a medley of feelings, inspired partially by fantasy and partially by reality. Unfortunately the reality can be sadder then the fiction but that is the reality of life for many in the other world. It is with joy that I bring their story to light.
The cover picture was done to highlight the differences of life that we see reflected in today’s society.
Thus the properties of grandeur: cathedrals against the shacks,
the wild life where some are free to fly while others are caged.
The bondage of poverty verses the privilege that wealth brings.
“You don’t have to be sad to be aware”

Cover design Pat Simpson
Pieces Of Existence is just life as I’ve seen it so far.
Pieces that have formed to make the one
Tragedy along side of jubilation.
The suburbs miles from the ghettos.
Wars that make some men rich
and some men dead.
How death brings
comfort to some and
sorrow to others.
I don’t know exactly why I wrote these
poems but I did, and if you enjoy or relate
to any of them then I guess that is why I
wrote them...

MY DAD
He always counts his blessings.
He's never down on life.
He gets great joy from toying with
and picking on his wife.
He doesn't have much money.
The house he lives in tilts.
On Christmas when there wasn't much
he gave us homemade stilts.
He feeds the hungry children.
He keeps up on the news.
He takes his time with all he does
and rarely blows a fuse.
He's good at his profession.
A wise man with a hammer.
And as he writes his son will
sometimes check his work for grammar.
He shows his strong emotions.
Fights for what he believes.
He speaks best through his poetry,
the web of work he weaves.
His rough, cracked fingers hurt.
He plays guitar at heart.
He isn't always modest,
just because he knows he's smart.
He's got a lot of pride.
He loves his familv.
There's so much to this man
that even I will never see.
My Dad's a complex man.
I look to him a lot.
Those who get him know a 'simple'
Carpenter he's not.
And what a chip off the old block is Kimberly,
A great poet I can see like her Dad "Joebirdies"
